Information on Criminal Background Checks
in New Jersey:
New Jersey Administrative Code authorizes the
dissemination of New Jersey criminal history record
information by the New Jersey State Police,
Identification and Information Technology Section,
State Bureau of Identification for noncriminal
justice purposes. The following entities are
authorized to obtain all records of convictions in
the New Jersey state courts and, regardless of their
age, all records of pending arrests and charges for
violations of New Jersey laws, unless such records
have been expunged.
- Governmental entities of this state, the
federal government, or any other state for any
official governmental purpose.
- A person that seeks to directly engage the
services of the subject of the record, for the
purpose of determining a the subject's
qualifications for employment or volunteer work.
- Attorneys-at-law licensed by any state.
- Private detectives licensed by the Division
of State Police.
- A person for the purpose of a personal

incarcerated in all state facilities since 1970, including
those who have been released or paroled. Results show
defendant name, date of birth, sex, offense description,
case number, county of offense, sentence date and release or
parole date. Records updated semi-annually (July and
New Jersey Sex Offender RecordsMedium and
high-risk sex offenders sentenced since January 1991.
